Sadly whilst writing this, we have also been alerted by the Recruiter (Centaur Media PLC) that Andrew McKelvey, founder of Monster Worldwide has died on 27 November from pancreatic cancer, aged 74.
Andrew was the former chief executive of TMP Worldwide, which acquired The Monster Board and Online Career Center in 1995 and launched Monster.com four years later. We offer our condolences.
Reuters have reported that online professional networks are becoming an increasingly popular tool for job seekers. Providing valuable networking opportunities and alerts to new job openings. They continue to report that LinkedIn (the industry’s leader) has seen its membership leap from 18 million at the start of the year to more than 31 million in September 2008 (around 25% more users than expected)
A new forum known as SAFER (The Recruitment Industry Counter-Fraud Forum). It has been set up by several of the key players in the recruitment and on-line recruitment industry including; Monster, Fish4, Guardian Media Group, REC and On-Rec.
Its main aim is to raise awareness about and to combat criminal activities in order to protect employers, job seekers and service providers during the recruitment process.
Throughout 2008, there has been alot of talk over Twitter and whether it is a waste of time (HRC included). The main issue is the lack of understanding in how to use it.
