Happy Pancake Day! As a bit of fun, the team thought that the recipe for making pancakes, slightly resembled finding the perfect applicant. What do you think?
Low calorie basic Pancake Applicant Mix
Ingredients
4oz soft skills
2 medium qualifications
1floz of hard skills
Splash of personality
Spray of low calorie fun
Method
1. Sift the soft skills into a bowl
2. Make a well in the centre of the soft skills and break in the 2 medium qualifications & mix together
3. Gradually add the hard skills and the splash of personality until you have a smooth mix
4. Prepare for your interview over a high heat
5. Meanwhile, measure 3 Tbsp of pancakeapplicant mix into pre-screen process (note how many applicants you have incorprated at this stage, to avoid having to repeat the process)
6. Once the interview is hot and ready, spray with a bit of low calorie fun
7. Add the pre-screened pancake applicant mix to the centre of the hot interview and test from side to side to give a good even overview
8. Check with questions once the sides become a bit loose and then toss into the air to turn over and brown the other side
9. Cook the other side with information about your company for a few seconds
10. Remove from the interview and onto the next stage to keep warm whilst you make the remaining applicants..
* You can layer the pancakes applicants up in a pile with a layer of feedback forms between them and place the plate over a warm heat until you have decided which one you are going use..
For a really sweet filling - try covering the pancake applicant in a high salary and excellent benefits. Alternatively, for a savoury filling - look at training providers and improving retention.

Personnel Today have reported a blanket refusal to consider any applicants for trainee positions from outside the EEA could result in unfair dismissal.
A case was bought by Mr A Purohit (an Indian National) who applied online for a trainee solicitor contract for Osbourne Clark Services. He was told that he did not meet the criteria as he would require a work permit to take up employment in the UK.
The EAT dismissed an appeal by Osborne Clarke Services and ruled that the firms policy adversely effected non-EEA nationals who needed a Border and Immigration Authority (BIA) permit to work in the UK. The firm argued that because they had little hope of obtaining a BIA work permit, putting a non-EEA candidate through the recruitment process would incur extra costs and raise the applicants expectations.
In the original hearing it was said that the firm should not assume that there was no point in applying for a work permit.
With this new development, HR Connexions recommends that companies revisit their recruitment policies, especially those who have a blanket ban and will not accept applications, for trainee positions, from non-EEA nationals who require sponsorship under the points system.
