Online Recruitment, Social Networking 1 Comment

What a week! The weather has certainly picked up every one’s spirits this week and the Online Recruitment Industry continues to gain momentum.  We are certainly not letting this weeks Office of National Statistics headlines  get us down!

It’s been a big week for all the Social Networking sites so, we thought we would donate this week just to Social Media for Recruitment.  A quick overview of this weeks headlines on Social Networking in Recruitment:

Linked In have really upped their game this morning, with some great new features: Much better control of your inbox, ability to add RSS feeds to group news and you can now add company profiles for subsidiary companies. We have some interesting discussions going on about social networking in the HR Connexions Group All are welcome to come and join in!

Twitter have launched MyTweetJobswhich is a new service that means you can now send job posts to anyone who signs up to MyTweetJobs.  Most of the jobs are being posted from Indeed (job board aggregator) whist they build the volume.  It has the potential to be a great way to promote and engage your vacancies with job seekers whether they are on a computer or on their phones. And, it’s free!

Facebook have also changed their homepage with a new look and news feed similar to twitter but with the pictures and videos, they have also launched the application for twitter to integrate into facebook.  So now you can update your status on FB through twitter.  Whether this is a good thing or not, I suppose depends on how you use the sites and your affiliation with them.  In addition to this, there is also some analysis done that suggests that Facebook could surpass Google by 2011..

Obviously the success of twitter and FB for recruitment depends on a whole host of variables and there are many opinions out there as to whether it benefits the recruiter or not.   On our little survey, Linked In is by far the best social media for recruitment. What do you think? Have your vote!

And, finally, Brand Republic report that over half of global marketeers will increase their social media marketing spend in spite of the recession

Please feel free to network with HR Connexions by clicking on the logo’s below.

    Happy Recruiting & Networking!

What is the Best Method to Recruit?

    Applicant Attraction No Comments

Quite a generic question and one that would be difficult for many people to answer as it typically depends on the role, the location, the market and availability of skills.  However, I was interested in an overall perception of what people thought was the most effective method to recruit.

Although not at all scientific, I launched into the Linked In Poll application and set up the survey.  As the Poll was on a networking site, this probably swayed results too, so although an interesting read, probably not conclusive evidence.  The Poll is still running, so please cast your vote to gain an insight into the questioning and be counted in the next analysis.

94 people have responded so far and here is a broad overview of the results…

Not surprising that on a networking site Direct / Word of Mouth (WOM) was the most favoured method (35%) with Online / Job boards closely followed (32%).  Recruitment Agency / Head Hunter claimed a fair 27% of the votes but Newspapers / Trade Press were seriously lagging behind at only 1%

HR Consultants were the largest group of respondents (34%) and surprisingly see Recruitment Agencies almost three times as more effective than Online / Job Boards.  However, over 50% of HR see WOM as being the effective method.

Although only 5% of the respondents were Engineers, a staggering 100% of this job category voted for WOM.  If this is A-typical of the Engineering Industry it demonstrates a very closed market to both job seekers and recruitment suppliers.

There was almost a 50/50 split in ratio of women to men respondents.  However, almost twice as many men regard the Recruitment Agency route their preferred choice whist almost twice as many women prefer WOM.  Could this mean that women are better net workers when it comes to recruitment????

The results also highlight that Online Recruitment / Job Boards are preferred by the majority of medium, enterprise and large organisations compared to small organisations who still prefer to use Recruitment Agencies.

And finally, the majority of respondents were aged between 25 - 54 and responded with a relatively equal split between Recruitment Agencies / Job Boards and WOM.  The over 55’s would only consider Recruitment Agencies or WOM to be the most effective….

So, not very scientific and a difficult one to generalise, but overall, I quiet interesting results.  If you want to have your say and see the results live then please vote on the Linked In Poll
